Eight Brigade relieved by 5th A.I.B.Bde. All Brigade except one Coy 36th Bn relieved by daybreak.

9. a.m. The Brigade was disposed as follows:-

35th Bn - BOIS de L'ABBE
36th Bn - BOIS de BLANGY
9th A.M.G.Coy - BOIS de L'ABBE
9th A.L.T.M.Bty - SOMME VECQUEMONT
26th A.A.S.C. supplied from Railhead VIGNACOURT to Unit Q.M. Stores.
34th Bn placed at disposal of 18th Bn A.I.F. in VILLERS BRETONNEUX for Counter-attack purposes.
6 p.m. 33rd Battalion moved to cellars on Western outskirts of VILLERS-BRET.
Location of H.Q. at nightfall. - BLANGY-TRONVILLE
7-4-18
7 pm 34th and 35th Battalions moved into cellars in VILLERS-BRET.
Brigade relieved of responsibility of supplying counter-attacking Bn by 18th Divsn.

10 am Arrangements complete for the establishment of an advanced Bde H.Q. in event of serious hostile action in VILLERS-BRET.
9-4-18
9.30 am Arrangements complete for taking over the line by 34th and 36th Bns at nightfall.
7 pm 34th and 36th Battalions relieved the 19th and 20th Bns. Owing to signs of hostile attack, 36th Bn was deployed about a mile W of BOIS de HANGARD ready for a counter-attack. Under heavy bombardment enemy captured the Cemetery on the N.E.outskirts of HANGARD and actually entered the Village. An immediate counter attack by French and English troops brilliantly re-established the line. relief complete by 4 am.

Each Bn, three Coys in the line and one in support with one Coy of English troops in Reserve to the 36th Bn.
9 am Conference held at Advanced Bde report Centre. Decided to establish garrison of VILLERS-BRET as under -
33rd Bn, 2 sections of 9th A.M.G.Coy, 9th A.L.T.M.Bty and 256th Tunnelling Coy R.E. all under the command of Lieut-Col L.J. MORSHEAD D.S.O.
34th and 36th Bns remain temporarily attached to the 5th A.I.Bde. 10.30 am G.O.C. and B.M. reconnoitered between BOIS de GENTELLES and BOIS de BLANGY for position of readiness for Div Reserve.
