away and said "Sorry". I said "that's alright, I have enough problems. There is a car I have to see about", anyway later on I got a cheque from those people.

Well now the car V8 Ford I rang the financiers up and the insurance companies and told them he was killed and to please come and take the car away, so they just did that, but just before I did that I asked Jack if he would like to take it over and he said no thank you mum, I want no part of it.

Well what a year and also the next one in the February. Beryl and Stan lost a daughter. In the June Merle and her girlfriend Connie sailed for England in the Fair Sky (I think). In the September Betty turned 21 and she and Barrie were engaged. John came home one night and asked me to sign some papers for him to join the R.A.A.F. After some words passed between us he said it is what he wanted so now he is in the Air Force. The same year my mother passes away. Then in the December Nanna Wood passed away and this was very sad also.

Well now that year has gone and now we are in January 1957 I think and Betty and Barrie get married. She was a very lovely bride and Barrie looked good also. By now Beryl is very sick with a goitre and has an operation. Connie, Merles friend was married overseas and Merle the bridesmaid and so Merle comes home in the July and her friend Ron before she left was there. Also to meet the ship when it comes in and I think it was the "Fair Sea" (or the ship may have been vica versa). Now on the 2nd December Betty and Barrie had a lovely baby boy Bradley. That Christmas Beryl and Stan etc came for Christmas and it was a very hot one I can tell you. I am still at tuck shop. Also have a few chooks and decide to sell them for Easter and it proved a very profitable business but it was very hard to get them killed and with John being away and even if he were home he would not kill them and well now I foget whether I held the head and fowl and Margaret cut the head off or Marg held and I cut the head off. Anyway we had a few orders and they were all done in the laundry but we did not do it anymore.

Now I get the bug to sell Westmead. As there was too much sadness there anyway, so I saw a shop and dwelling in Mosman and it looked good, but the shop had to be built up and I was not worried about that, so I told Dorrie and she wished me well. So left the tuck shop plus going to Uncle Bills. We had a little shed at one side of the house with only a dirt floor and I had a big cardboard box in there with a lot of my personal books etc. in and forgetting about the blessed thing when it rained it was on a slant and everything in the box was ruined and they had to go to the tip. So we finally moved to Mosman "The Bread & Butter" suburb as it was called. So we are now in the shop at Mosman and the people that bought Westmead, their name was Young also. While in the shop John has his 2Ist, so I bought him a set of golf clubs and I think he still has them. Merle and Ron were married in Sydney very quietly and later that same year Merle and Ron took Margaret for a holiday to Adelaide and I believe Marg slept almost all of the way, it really is a joke with the family how our Margaret can sleep.
