One sports day at Belmore oval when peace was declared I stayed at the oval with teachers and students to come home to find I had missed all the excitement of ToJo effigy on bonfire and told of days activities. Dad saying we would meet our Mothers mother (when Dear Nan would visit telegram would arrive advising weather permitting) one day and remember the day well and then the odd visits to Dear Nan always a big wash up in the oven waiting for me. I was rewarded well though going to the movies at Manly to see "Annie Get Your Gun" working in the Balgowlah Theatre milk bar and Dear Nan putting make up on me to make me look attractive. Wheeling Margaret home in a wheelbarrow then on to Canterbury hospital after her falling over a pile of bricks and spraining her ankle. Yvonne objecting to walk up for Sunday paper. Going to Easter show with Dear Nan on member tickets and having all the VIP treatment. When with family being walked through pavilion on Dad's shoulder then put into watch ring events until late and curling up on a seat with newspaper put over us to keep warm. Spring cleaning, bon-aiming the windows and mirrors, staining the timber around the floor then being able to enjoy the holidays. A family holiday at the Entrance, at a holiday home of Mrs Pickering Mother of Mrs. Wright our neighbor. I now attend Canterbury Girls school and was bus prefect and one rule is still very vivid no eating in public. We moved to Campsie "Charlie Pavitt" days, front of house being bricked in with hot bricks. Beryl cutting my plaits off and being told she would have to care for my hair. (so still to this day I do not do my own hair professionally).
