had been to me and his wife Lorice was there and she cuddled me kissed me and said "you have been wonderful to us lets hope you and Harold enjoy your retirement".

1971 and off Harold and I head up to Queensland to begin our retirement in a block of units just near the Lands End Bridge. There were 6 units and we had the middle bottom one. When we got there our furniture and all did not turn up until late the next day. The place was partly furnished and we did have some food etc. as we bought enough to last a couple of days, saucepans to boil water and cook anything we wanted and a couple of plastic plates as we had to go to solicitors and collect the key and go to electricity and have it put on as all our clothing and things were in the truck with our other things and we had a hand towel and washer, so when the truck did not turn up we knew we only had to wait .....Well we only had the clothes we stood up in so I slept in my petticoat and Harold slept in his singlet and underpants. There were no sheets on the beds just as well it was hot weather, anyway we survived till next day, late afternoon. I could not make them a cuppa or anything. Oh! Harold had been and bought ½ doz cans of beer and he gave them a drink each, well when they had gone we closed the door and just unpacked one box after another and put things where they might go, the beds were made up and I prepared some dinner and we ate showered and got into our night clothes at 8.00p.m. We decided to go to bed we were both tired out. We at least had our sheets and pillows that night and we slept very well but I woke early made some orange drink and a cuppa. Harold said "that's good, well we may as well have our breakfast and start some more unpacking". Well he was marvelous the way he put all paper and rubbish and cut up small boxes and found out that if the boxes were all put out tidy and the garbage men would take it away, but when Harold had it all packed up he put it out on the patio just in the front, and when the garbage men came he asked them if they would take it so he carried it down and gave them $5.00. They were happy and so were we to be rid of it. Well now we had the task of cleaning cupboards etc to put things away. Well we really got sorted out but that day we had to go and see if our money had arrived in the Southport bank, yes it had so we had to draw some to fill our larder and fridge. We had so much we came back in a taxi.

That is all settled and we are getting fixed up which Harold wanted so as he could start looking for a boat. Well the weekend came and the young couple that owned the top front unit, a knock on our door and this chap was standing there with books etc. He said "Mrs Forshaw" I said "yes", he told me his name but no way do I know it now, he said "these are the books for the building. The lady in here used to be the secretary and she said you would take it over", "No way not just like this they will have to be audited before I will touch them plus there will have to be a meeting, sorry and closed the door".

We are settled in nicely, Margaret used to come up every Easter for her 4 days off from work. Yvonne and Alan came up for Christmas and New Year. Now Merle and Ron had been also with the 2 boys. They were only young then (the boys). 1972 Merle and Ron put the 2 boys on the plane to come up and stay with us for 2 weeks by the way we have not got a boat yet. There was a very bad cyclone (Daisy) I think her name was, it was a shocking experience. I said to Harold you told me there were no cyclones here only higher up. Betty and Barrie had been up for holiday with the 3 boys.
