stayed with us at Suffolk Park, and Alan drove us all up to Surfers Paradise where he had 2 flats booked for us. We got dressed there and then went on to Anglers Paradise. I made the cake and a friend of Merles had it iced, but what a great night it was. Everyone was there except John's wife Coralie and Betty's eldest son Bradley as he was a radio announcer, morning session Brekky with Brad. Party was a huge success, but trust Beryl while she was at the party she decided to send invitations out for the family for her 50th. Merle's was as she called it a family gathering. The girls were all sitting down the yard at Westmead and that's going back, then girls got talking and decided that when Merle turned 50 no matter where they all lived but Merle was to put a party on, they decided that would be a good idea so invitations were done in that manner and put in sealed envelopes not to be opened till that year and date. I was the only one that did not get one. They might have thought by the time Merle would be 50 I would not be around (joking). The chap that owned the restaurant came up to Merle and I while we were talking and said to Merle you don't even look 50. Merle said well this is my mother and she is 70. he thought it great. as the both of us did not look our age. By the way Bradley his wife Carolyn and their 2 daughters Julie-Ann and Belinda Sue, they still live in Mt Isa and still on radio, but the manager now also he is an A.M.P. man.

Well life is still going on at Suffolk Park, working hard in the garden, but we were eating our own vegies which was great, also we had a lovely display of poppies right along the front fence. This particular day I had been baking Christmas cake and had a pudding made as we were going to go to Beryl's for Christmas that year as Harold had said he had never been there, and Beryl had asked us to go as we had been to all the others, so we decided to. Now just remember where I said I had been baking, well Harold came and said "I think a fly has bit me in the eye". So I had a look at it and bathed it but he said "it is still sore but not as bad". So I said "have rest don't go out again, have a jolly good scrub up, you have been working too hard out there". "Yes" he said "I think I will, but I will go and put all the gear in garage". So he did this and said his eye felt better, probably where it bit me the sting will be gone by morning. Well it did not keep him awake so thought good it must be o.k. When he woke I said "how's your eye", he said "it feels as though it is swollen", so I have him his orange juice and had a look at it. and I said "my goodness it is swollen. I hope its not poisoned". He said "we better go to the doctor and I said yes that's for sure". While we were having breakfast I said "how will it be if we don't go up here to see doctor, we have to go into Byron today and we can go to the clinic in there before the shops open if we catch the school bus". So Harold agreed, and by the time we got to the clinic the nurse there asked what was wrong with him, and he lifted up his glasses and she said "Mr Forshaw put those glasses back and go straight to the hospital", "oh!" she said. "you don't have a car do you?  "We can walk", "no" she said, "go out and get in my car and we will catch Dr Curlie, he is operating around there". So she took us in and she spoke with Curlie, by now poor Harold's eyelid had turned inside out. Doctor put something in it and said to me "put this in at the chemist and get it made up and then take him straight home". "Alright" I said, "if I put the script in and then duck into bank and Post Office and just pick up a couple of things I want then get a taxi and go home after I have got the script", "yes that will be fine". So we walked around to the chemist and put the script in and I left Harold near the chemist on a seat. I was not 5 minutes, so I asked hint if he felt O.K. to come into the grocers with
