By now its my birthday and Ray still has not given me the engagement ring.  He is very good, no drinking and he used to like to come to the Taylor's, and he liked the 3 boys.  I get the mumps and am in bed for my birthday.  Ray calls in and he told Aunty Peg he was going to give me the ring, it was lovely and I was so sick.  Dad came up to see me and I showed him and he said "so you have both gone against my wishes". Aunty Peg said "go on Harry wish them both luck, you were once young yourself".  So he did do, but very reluctantly, but I did not care.

Well when I got better which was only a couple of weeks, Aunty Peg asked me If I would like to go to Bathurst with her for a holiday to see her mother, I said "yes".  Before I go back to work, and when Ray came that night he said "I have a shed to go to in a few days so I will be away for 4 to 6 weeks and please don't take that ring off your finger because now your mine".  I am saving a bit of £.S.D.now I am not drinking, won't you?" "Yes" I said and when you come home you have to come with me to meet the Young family in North Sydney, and another time we will go to see gran, she lives in Erskinville now, and I have seen them from time to time.  I did want them to meet Ray, he was really nice now and not drinking, it was truly great.  So off he goes to a Shed in Queensland shearing and I went with Aunty Peg and the boys to Bathurst. It was a lovely holiday.  Her sister owned the Red Rose Tearooms in Bathurst and we stayed there with them.  Her mother was a dear old lady (and now I am an old lady).  Well when we arrived back in Campsie at Aunty Pegs her husband George said all of you close your eyes when you come in, well what a lovely surprise for her he had bought her a pianola, did we have fun, we used to have a sing song every night.

I am back at work.  I am now very busy making things for my glory box and buying all sorts of things to put in it when I get it.  I had been doing fancy work over the years travelling back and forth in the train to work.  Now Ray comes home from Queensland and he wants all the Taylor family to go and meet his mother and family, so this we did.  While we were their, I did say to Ray "do you think you could make me a Glory Box" which caused a lot of laughter, and his mate Dick Menzies said "your gone mate", and Ray said to him "don't you know" know what?  I have been all over New South Wales wool classing so I don't know anything".  So I showed him my ring, and he said "well if you hadn't have done that, I was going to ask her, she's great and I love her shoes and stockings, only the best".  That was only a joke of course, but Ray took it hard, and was told if he did not watch himself he would have to find another boarding house.  But they were alright, would you believe they used to dress alike, always bought the same clothes in everything.  Right now Ray is very busy making this Glory Box for me.  He bought the timber ready cut and it was solid oak.  It all had to be glued so he got his brother Albert to help him.  Albert being a fancy leather worker knew more about it than Ray.  Albert put all the padding in and lined it with Sky Blue Satin.  It was a really lovely box and it has a tray in it also, it  was lined. Well eventually I got it and gosh I had it full in no time at all.  Ray's mother said am I glad to see the back of that box, he has had glue material and all the pieces of it all over the place.  I used to spend a lot of time at Earlwood.  There was Olive at home, a milliner at David Jones,  Jessie, a dressmaker at David Jones and Albert at David Jones fancy leatherworker, Lillian
