think he has gone. I will go back to my husband now. So I took Joyce upstairs and made her a cuppa tea because he had gone and the ambulance could not move the body till he got a doctor and what was worse when the doctor came we had to wait for the undertaker to come and take body to morgue. by now phones ringing, family is coming in so I kept Joyce upstairs with me until they came and took the body away. The girls are all home by now all up in our part and I am feeding I made a great big stew and lots of vegies for them all down stairs and I had going up stairs for us. I did not make any sweets as there were plenty cakes and scones that people were bringing. Well by the time they all went to bed that night. Harold and I were pretty tired. So we had the next day at home getting organised for the funeral the next day. So I left them downstairs to their own devices as I cooked all day and we went down the street and bought things. But that night the two eldest girls came up to see what they could borrow to wear to the funeral. Well really not only those 2 but Joyce herself had a hat and handbag. The twins were o.k and the youngest girl was o.k. too as Joyce was a dressmaker and those three still at school. Funeral next day when they all came back people and relations I had all kinds of goodies on the table, water all boiling, cups etc. all out. Joyce wanted Harold and I to stay down with them, we did, and we thanked them and went upstairs as all the girls got into the washing up, cleaning up.

They were all o.k. Well Harold and I had made arrangements to go fishing on the Sunday so we got everything we needed for Sunday on the Saturday and we had a great day so we made arrangements to go every Sunday. Whilst we were there we used to catch fish, but it was softer than our fish in N.S.W. but neverthless fishing was real good down there. One Sunday we went, the boat was absolutely packed to capacity, it stopped halfway to the fishing spot and such a lot of the men got off and were taken to an island by rowing boat, so the one going fishing we had morning tea, well they were all taken to where they could catch mutton birds and they were only allowed so many. I forget the no. now. We had a good catch of bream and my husband asked one of the chaps with mutton birds if he could swap bream for mutton bird. Well he gave 3 bream for 1 mutton bird, and boy after that he wanted mutton birds, but I said it is so cruel, as we were coming into port. I said look see all the mother birds coming back to feed their babies (as the mutton birds were only babies they only had down on them no feathers) and when they get there they will have no babies to feed, very sad. I had to ask Joyce how to cook it, but never again, the smell was so strong I could not stand it. But liked it to eat and said "they must be good for one with all that mutton bird oil that is sold in the shops".

Well after all that Harold working now with the apple season in full swing and of course I was knitting socks for him as it was getting very cold. One day I went down to the "Cat & Fiddle Arcade" to buy a few things. I saw a notice in the window for an experienced lady to sell cheese and chickens for a 2 day special so I thought gee another 3 months of Harold working I'll go and apply. It will be a break, believe me. I got the job so I started next day. I had no problems at all so at the end of the 2nd day I said to the girl in charge "I'll go and get my money now, O.K.she said. So up I went to the office. I was asked in and was paid for the 2 days. He said "Mrs Forshaw I saw you serving on the continental cakes counter", "yes when we were a wee bit slack during the lunch hour and Mrs ? was on her own, did I do wrong? sorry if I did". "No no"
