Dear Colonel Holmes,
I received your note re Pockley on Monday the 15th & by same mail the file from the Minister's office re the same matter. I enclose for your private information my minute appended to the report & returned to the A.Q.M.G. It will tell you all I know about it. Of course it will eventually go back to Dr. Pockley.
I am very sorry you should have had this bother over the matter. I saw Dr. Pockley on my return & explained everything to him. I deeply regret the "Flask" incident & am endeavouring to trace it. It was with my own personal belongings at Rabaul, & surely one could not take more care than to do that. If I hear any more I will communicate with you.
Allow me to offer you my heartiest congratulations on your appointment to the 5th Brigade. I wish I were coming with you, for I hate the thought of all my comrades going on. However I feel that I have a duty to my family to consider & while here I am doing something for the cause. My heart will be with you & your Brigade wherever they go & my most sincere wishes that honour & success may always attend you shall accompany you on your way. I am prouder of having served under you than of anything I have ever done.
Yours very sincerely,
F.A. Maguire.
Major.
