The Officer Commanding.
N & M Expedition.

In compliance with your request I have the honor to submit my confidential report on  the officers under my command.

Regimental Staff
Colonel J. Paton V.D.   Is a capable &  experienced officer of ability, his  keeness so great that he joined the expedition as a Major & my second in command, in which position he gave me loyal support   His services as Officer Commanding Rabaul Garrison have been carried out in a highly satisfactory manner.

Capt. C.H.D. Lane.   As Adjutant  of the infantry & afterwards as Staff Officer to the O.C. Troops, he has rendered me loyal support, his work showed keenness & ability and his services have been in every way satisfactory.   His services should be made further use of:

Capt. S.P. Goodsell.   As Quartermaster his services were quite satisfactory, very keen & capable, he  handled the rather onerous duties of his position in   a sound business like manner which greatly added to the comfort of the  troops.
