Further Service
341 Pitt Street,
Sydney,
5th March '15.
The Commandant,
2nd Military District.
While acting as British Administrator at Rabaul, I applied on 28th November last, direct to the Minister for Defence to be relieved from that position, and allowed to return to Australia with the troops under my command, at the expiration of their enlisted period of service in New Guinea, with a view to further Military Service in Europe.
On 7th January, I received a wireless message that my request had been acceded to, and I handed over to Colonel Pethebridge, and returned to Australia.
Although my desire for further military service abroad, is already well known to the Minister and the Chief of General Staff, I deem it advisable, now that I have returned to the District under your Command, to officially advise you of such desire, and to ask you for your favourable recommendation.
[William Holmes]
Colonel.
