Dear Pethebridge,
Thank you for your letter of the 9th instant.   Fry has handed over  to me, the financial statements duly certified to by Bond, and I have also received from Heritage, the  Stores Stock Sheets and Accounts, similarly certified to by the Auditor
It is very satisfactory to have received such a satisfactory report from the Auditor, and certainly reflects great  credit on both Fry and Heritage, who had to organise order out of chaos.

I have received the sum of   £25, which you propose should be expended in purchasing something for Bond in recognition of his services as Auditor to the Administration.   I certainly concur in the proposal, and when the souvenir is purchased, I will send the receipt to you.   At present, Bond is in South Australia, but I am communicating with him.

Now about the services  to the Administration rendered by  Fry and Heritage, you know the value of same, and the manner in  which they worked, never sparing themselves, night or day. I think the least we can do is to pay them the sum of   £50 each. If you concur, perhaps you will remit me, and I will hand over.   I have not mentioned the matter to either of them yet, of course they do not expect extra remuneration, but they went with the Expedition as soldiers, and I do not see why we should take advantage of their special attainments in a civil capacity without recompense.
I am sending Fry to Melbourne on 28th instant, to explain
