First Lifeguards Band. I have never heard a military or civilian band play operatic selections equal to the bands First Life. An amusing feature of all sectors was that the "clink" was always established at the corner on the road so that detachments passing up and down would see be able to view them. Inside this barbed wire enclosure Sandy McTavish who had been "fos'o the noo" could be seen strutting disdainfully up and down whisking his kilts and looking defiance at the whole world. It was noticable that the Australians fraternised more with the Jocks than the Tommies & used to go to each others rescue when the military police were effecting arrests.
