a choice military camp salubriously situated in a muddy area.

While here I went over the field of Pozieres - under snow - and it was a sad & desolate spectacle;   all the trees about there bare & stricken by shell fire as if by a comprehensive blast of lightning.   I was told that our glorious dead lay there for months before being interred.   On this field the Australians won, lost & regained their ground with a dogged pertinacity unsurpassed by any of the glorious achievements of the famous Light Division in the Peninsular War.
