& overhead there were two enemy aeroplanes at which our anti-aircraft guns were firing shrapnel.   It is a curious sight.   Where half a dozen shells have exploded you see half a dozen bunches of smoke like whifs from a cigar lingering in the air.   It is a magic sight to observe an enemy machine come down in flames.   Our boys raise a great shout while the poor devils in the plane are getting incinerated.  Whenever  In all our marching round about Bapaume we came across wrecked aeroplanes like so many shot birds here & there.   Also stranded tanks.   These ungainly looking monsters
