Just back from Gallipoli, and reverted to Private.

Against my will I was separated from my comrade Doug. and sent to "C" Coy and given one stripe.
Mar 1st
The Bn. moved to Serapeum for garrison work and encamped a few miles on the Asiatic side of the Suez-Canal, my recollections of this "Hell-on-earth" are anything but pleasant for apart from training that would break the heart of a lion, I think of thirst, sandstorms, full marching-order, outposts at night and flies and sand.
The only pleasant break was a swim in the canal sometimes and that was salt, and we had to walk 3 miles through soft sand to get there, and another 3 back. Here we were visited by the Prince of Wales, but he didn't stay long.
