at Confusion Corner, and heard of the German offensive.  Here I was transferred to Battalion H.Q. as Musketry Sergeant.

April 2nd

"Hurry up" for the Somme - light railway to Hoograaf (Poperinghe) marched by night to Godewaersvelde, and entrained for Amiens, (St Roch Station).  Forced march back to Raineville, and another to Beaucourt-sur-Huille, (I was the rear party).

April 11th

"British retreating up North" off we go again.  Marched back to Amiens, where we spent what was left of the night - bombed from the air (was blown up by one) and shelled heavily.

April 12th

Entrained at St Roch and went on the St Pol-Doullens Line (which was under shell fire) did ever a troops train move so fast.  Stopped at Hazebrouck - which place was in danger - the line was broken - everyone was in
