they caried extra packs (a wonder). However we had a pleasant 3 weeks at Tingry and Leave to Boulogne.
Dec 17th
I went to the 5th Army Musketry School at Northbecourt via St Omer. Had a stay in Lumbres on the way. - Spent Christmas, New Year and my 22nd birthday here and they were all properly "kept up" too. It was bitterly cold and snow lay thick, but better than the trenches and appreciated accordingly.

Jan 8th
Found the Battalion again at Wytschaete, there just in time to do a few fatigues, a trip to the trenches, and be made full Sergeant, and was sent back to Kemmel, stayed with the Transport at Lindenhoek a week visited Dranoutre, Messines.
Jan 26th
Climbed Mount Kemmel and on the 26th humped my pack gladly to Bailleul "en route" for another Musketry School - in England too. I went via Calais, Dover
