Fritz's planes, and our searchlights quite interesting too. Then another trip to Ypres, Cafe Belge and Westhoek Ridge via The Menin Road, Menin-Gate, Birr Cross-Roads, Hell-Fire corner, Hooge Dump, and Jabber-track. Had a rough trip in too, remember the hammering - Five days particular hell on Westhoek then up the line to Zonnebeke - I had the platoon without any assistance all this time having neither an officer or N.C.O.s, so have cause to remember it. - anyway it ended at last. - but they must give us another few days on that death trap Westhoek before going back.

Started a six days march (some mad doctor's remedy for trench feet) ending near Boulogne, our nightly halting places were Berthen, Zuytpeene, Wardrecques, Remilly-Wirquin, Blequin, ending at Tingry outside Samer, near Devres, at Berthen I sneaked a trip to Bailleul (an old acquaintance).
