and London to Hayling Island which is off Portsmouth and looking across the Solent to the Isle of Wight, it was a charming spot, and I had the unique experience of being billeted in England - quite different to France. The School lasted 3 weeks and I had 3 week-ends in London, then 7 days leave which I spent in Glasgow, returning to France via London, Calais, and Dover -  I rejoined at Ridgewood and all that month we did heartbreaking fatigues to such places as Hill 60, Image Avenue, Shrewsbury Forest, Klein Zillebeke etc. - proceeding by light railway to Spoil-Bank - I remember one very close shave right on top of Hill 60 -  at broken-bridge, but that's another story in itself.
