and sailed the same day from Plymouth Sound for dear Old Australia, we have passed Gibralter, [Gibraltar] through the dreaded "Bay of Biscay", through the Mediterranean in "Glorious Weather" coaled (a wonderful sight) at Port Said, through the Suez Canal, past all the old spots Ismalia and Serapeum to Port Suez; and now we are sweating in the Red Sea (had the tail end of a Sirocco at Suez): and we are now passing Hell's Gate, and another few hours will see us past Aden; and then out into the Arabian Sea, we will call at Colombo, on 15th and then across the Indian Ocean, again past, Cocus [Cocos] Island, to Dear old Australia.
We saw the Southern Cross, last night, and how much it reminds us all of home, sweet home.
