[Handwritten note by Lieut. Sampson]

Major Martin,
I arrived in Toma 10.40 pm tonight   X 10 wagons are broken down (shafts broken &c)   within the last 5 miles   Have no  guard with them.   So would like Motor Lorry as early as possible
The late Governor has informed me that 40 troops have landed here from Wilhelmshaven who do not know that peace has been declared.   He does not know their whereabouts but thinks they are making for Toma.   Do you think it is advisable for me to go beyond Toma before these troops have been located?

[In margin]   X wagons contains ammunition & some wireless plant.
