Every man stood up ready to seize his rifle on the chance of a morning salutation from the Huns. But nothing transpired & presently Lieut Armitage sauntered over from one of the other trenches with a gallon rum far under his arm. He sat at the end of the bench close to the corpse of a gigantic young Teuton. We had a stiff nip all round & it livened us up considerably. It had a fine bouquet, a quality of rum in fact that cannot be obtained for money.
