Feb 22nd

After ten days fatigues we went to Albert and billeted in the town, only to be sent back to Bazentin, all in a hurry - Fritz was retiring, and we were to follow him - What excitement!

Feb 28th

We occupied the Huns old Front Line System - "Smithy" and I slept on a duckboard, and counting the shells - he was shelling us, as he retreated.
We buried dead men here. - Poor devils had been lying there for months, we worked for days and then had to hurry on leaving many unburied still - A gruesome job, but a duty.

MarĀ 2nd

We went forward at night throught the villages of Le Barque and Ligny Thilloy and took up the pursuit.
