June 23rd

In the line again, just on the left of where we were before "Bois Grenier". Here our sergeant also came back for which we were very thankful. I didn't like his job a bit.

July 5th

Back again in "Sailly" less just one or two of the old boys - This was a time of trouble for us all "Joe", poor old "Joe" lost his stripe and then "Jordo" was on the mat for stouching a "Military Policeman" and even I did not escape, for cheeking our Sergt Major I was severly reprimanded.  

July 9th

On the train at Bailleul, and rumour says we are on our way to the Somme, to take part in the great battle there which started on July 1st.

July 11th

Detrained at Heinville-Candas (via Doullens) and marched to St Ouen (14 Kilometres).

July 12th

Marched to Vignacourt (6 kilometres).

July 13th

Marched to Allonville (16 kilometres).
The above three days march though hard, were through beautiful country - the wheat fields were ablaze with golden wheat, red poppies and blue
