always East so we are going for Panama, or the America's somewhere, rumour says the former

We are settling down to the ship now and getting into the run of things.

We parade at regular hours and get physical exercises as far as the limited size of the ship will allow, for there are 2,600 men on board, we also get boat drill at stated intervals. One is paraded for everything on board a ship, even for washing, and putting hammocks away. Good old red tape. On passing the 180deg meridien, we had two Mondays in the one week. On the first Monday we passed Sunday Island about dusk. It reminded me of a western range of hills arising out of the sea.

On the second Monday I saw my first flying fish, at a distance it resembles a swallow skimming over the water. As a rule they do not fly far before dropping back into the sea.

On the 6th of November we heard by wireless that Russia had temporarily withdrawn from the war, truly a great dissappointment to one but nevermind we'll do it on our own now.
