60 pounders had fallen short right into the bank on them. This was our principal casualties for the morning  6 killed and about 6 wounded. Just in front one of our tanks was out of action by a direct hit from a whizzbang gun. One man was carried out black all over, but living, another was sleeping his last long sleep on the grass nearby; white, oh! so white are the newly killed. But it had done its work well, for it had attacked a whizzbang battery and driven the men away and hooked the gun on and towed it in. The 60 pounder barrage having now lifted we dug in. At about 9 o clock fresh men and tanks appeared, the 5th division, armored cars came up the road through Wharfusee, and cavalry appeared; why said someone here's the "devil's own", appearing on the scene at last and sure enough there was the 13th light horse going over. It was a fine sight, cavalry spreading out over the open down country, men advancing ahead, and tanks crawling ahead, one was on fire about 2 kilos in front. Dumps were burning ahead along the road and their was great excitement. 

Presently a long string of Motor lorries came along the road, to make their base in Wharfusee for bases moved up with the advance. The R, H,A, and the 18 pounder were already in action just behind us to support the 5th. After digging
