We went back through Camon and Riverie, which were now very much wrecked. It was a nice ride through the French countryside. The grass is now brown and going dry for soon it will be Autumn.

It is rumoured that there is going to be a big stunt, "'furphies", are going round to that effect some say the 4th and 5 divisions will be in it, some say the 2nd and  3rd and so on, the 1st is down from Meteran. I was talking to an artillaryman in the village and he says there is going to be something doing for there isn't an 18 pounder shell back at the base dumps for miles, all being forward. All are agreed that the A,I,F, is too weak to go over the top, some say we are being cruelled, some stupid ones abuse the Tommies because their Morale was broken during the retreat and some ran away.
