Col. Henderson of the 39th is as keen as mustard.
Oliver Williams gives me the oil that I am to be allotted to the staff, his brother is C.R.E. & of course we are not permitted to forget the point, often we are reminded of "Tock".
Major Donaldson of the 11th, acting C.R.E. gave me a map of Amiens yesterday. Maps are scarce & I will hang onto this like grim death.
Wrote letters home etc. & played chess all afternoon with Capt, Payne.
The 38th met a patrol of 30 germans this morning, brought back 3 alive, shot the rest.

Had orders to go to Treux. Cycled to Heilly, picked up Cpl. Gray there & walked up right bank of the Ancre to Mericourt and gave resistance coil to May at Ribemont. Walked then along railway line to Treux, all rail points were destroyed. Heavy bombardment was heard from the Somme Valley, evidently an attack was in progress, it slacked off about noon.
Treux is a simple French village.
