quite content, better than being in the trenches, they were working on the roads & making quite a good job. They look quite willing & stated that they had nothing to complain of, they receive 3d per day & 2d deferred pay.
Van Rosendahl turned up today. Rosy is on leave & looked quite cheerful.
Jack my batman is quite eager to please, two days ago he got drunk & disappeared for a whole day - got 3 days C.B. I cannot help but smile.
Went round my horses today. They are shrewd & nibbled my fingers for biscuits. I always have some when I go among them. The donks are as shrewd as the rest, "Coffin lid", "Annie", "Isaacs", "Spare my days" were as good as gold.
