one of R.L.S. books, "Travels with a donkey in the Cevennes". It's jolly interesting, although its subject is ordinary and dull.

Wrote one or two letters of desultory character.

It rained constantly all day, the chalk roads were very slippery and muddy.

The horse lines this morning are simply awful. The horses are chalk mud from head to toe. Fortunately, it has cleared & a dry wind is blowing. I am hoping that this will dry up the standings. Had lunch at the drivers today, tea without milk or sugar & hash dry, not too bad.

Had dinner tonight at the Chateau.

Moloney & Amos, old 'B' company chaps, came in to have a yarn tonight. I rather enjoy their visits.
