after dressing walked up to La Basse Ville, the morning was dull & old Fritzies country looked disconsolate, smoke was coming out of a spot 100 yds or so nearer to our trenches than the Town of Warneton, numerous prisoners passed me as I walked up Ultimo.
At Co Headquarters I met Major Grant. He was jolly as ever, the war to him is a good joke.
Only 2 of our raiders were killed 10 wounded remarkably light when you consider the number who went over. 10 prisoners & 1 german officer were captured & many must have gone west. Many of our chaps had christened their bayonets, 300 went over the top.
Owing to the raid we have no working parties. Tonight our chaps go over again, old Fritz will have the "wind up" a mile, our Barrage fell on Fritzies wire, then front line & crept back, Mr Fritz didnt wait for it but made a bee line for the horizon.
