visit was not worth time spent there. We then returned & caught train to Trossachs to connect with river steamer to see the shipyard.
Informed steamer leaves 5.20 but in Lord of the Isles only arrives 5.40. We pass by many yards often as many as 10 ships berthed alongside each other only a few feet separating them. The boats are of all class from battleships to trawlers. One indeed is queer The Argus she has an immense superstructure hollow above her deck & squared & level we put her down as a balloon carrier. We pass the Yarrow yards & Harland & Wolf on the right. The yard or rather two yards for there is only a church & two rows of houses separating them & these have recently been purchased is a larger plant than at Belfast & is used up to its fullest capacity. On both sides we pass shipyard after shipyard with boats in all stages of construction. We pass old Dumbarton Castle & the residence of Denys of Dumbarton the great shipbuilder. His yard is further up Clyde. We reach Dunfermline & book seats at Alhambra Theatre - stalls at 1/10d each. The performance Be careful Baby is given in two sittings one at 6.20 & then at 8.20 pm hence the prices. We then return to hotel. breakfast at hotel costs 3/6 & consists of Porridge, fish & eggs bacon dinner is 5/6. Voyage passed Lanark steel work, Glasgow shell - coal mine & other enormous mounds - station Abington Beattock Lockerbie.

Lees & Molesworth set out for London by 9 am train & I for the English Lake district by 10 am for Penrith to which I duly arrived after changing several times according to custom. i pass thru Carlisle but have not much time. On arrival at Penrith find a car ready for Ullswater & driver gives me a box seat. Am informed that I must catch train here tonight in fact had better
