On arrival at Edinburgh at 8.00 it is still light & my friend takes me down Princes st the wide & noble thoroughfare of this city. & which constitutes the main artery of the new city the older part being on the other side of what was once a loch & now is a fertile valley used for railway lines. Across this valley placed in an imposing position the Art Gallery while in rear is old Edinburgh Castle with its square castle of the Stuarts its batteries & frowning walls.
