Pull at 7 leave 9 after circling sound outside breakwater in the interval.  View of Table Mt without a single cloud is grand & dwarfs the pigmy town.   As day wears on meet DeBeer & Runian two flying men  This is the day of muck up of berths & to my disgust find myself with 9C Little & Uren the two officers of the SSM school who disgust me more than the others. The officers on board are

Early rise bath & return to bed to read & then give up as eyes are bad. wonder if I am only tired or in for influenza. Church read more all morning & chatted with Saintou.  Slept all the afternoon.  After dinner went up on deck & yarned mainly with Campbell & then went below & bought this diary up to date for first time since arrived at Durban.  Will now be able to start copying it again for home.  To night we ran into a fog & blew fog horn.  As this was our signal for boat station most of officer dressed in life belt & overcoats

My Birthday - decided to do nothing in way of work today - read Palgrave & spend day with poets In evening stand cigars for table & others & find sufficient whisky brought from Liverpool to drink my health.  Day is quietly spent.
