see anything worth recording for a few days. I know I had a temperature of 104° because they gave me a thermometer to suck now and then. On the second of December we steamed into the Gulf of Paria between the mainland of South America and the Island of Trinidad. I was still in hospital but getting pretty well and able to take notice. The vessel could not get too close to the shore as the Gulf is not very deep. The Gulf lies like a great semicircle in the islands, the main entrance is between the Paria peninsula and the lovely group of islands known as the "Bocas". One half of the coast is rugged and truly magnificent, the other half is rather flat and uninteresting.

The capital of the island Port of Spain nestles at the foot of the hills and according to those who have been ashore runs electric trams and is quite a modern little city.

One might say a few words about the place. Trinidad, I ere, or the "Land of the Hummingbird"' is situated at the mouth of the Orinoco river South America its principal products are cacao and tropical fruits and asphalt there being
