Who has to face it, when he suffers is known as 'shell shock'

The strongest and bravest of men can be so mentally terrorized and nerve shaken that all the powers he has for the minds control are useless and vain

Mans intellect has made for him such terrible machinery and missels that long before he meets his enemy in battle – before he is even in sight of him – he has to face and crave the most terrific forces of natures cruel and unrelenting powers harnessed and loosened by his cunning to wreck and ruin and to slay.

This, of course, applies to both armies in contest
