Officers ride up and down sometimes on the footways. Each column loses its pace wrinkles up and becomes all halts and starts.
All this for a little while then a melting seems to take place as though the two columns of shadows become one with a strange double movement like opposite flowing rivers joined and still maintaining their courses.
For uttered curses and shouts and commands now die away
Each dragon and the many weird members of each now understands
Each is a counterpart of each
Hoof clomps echoe hoof clomp
Chain clink echoes chain clink
The tread of feet echoe the tread of feet
All sounds are doubled
