[October 15]

Wakened for duty on Phone at 5 AM.  This is a lovely big underground home, its miles long & held thousands of men at the beginning of the offensive.  It is fitted with electric light & a small tram line, & plenty bunks in.  Out mending wires which which were broken by shellfire.  A Tommy came here with a violin this evening & we were singing songs till till after 1 AM, my word we enjoyed ourselves, you would not think we were going into the line tomorrow.  On the Phone from 8 PM  till 1 AM.
