Saturday May 20th
Stood to arms at 2.30am nothing doing barring a bit of rifle fire & machine gun turned in again at 3.30 & went on guard again at 5.30 there is a machine gun implacement about 3 bays from us they do there own cooking they had a good smoke up so the Germans sent over two rifle grenades the first caught two wounding one in 7 places and the other in 4 but not seriously that was the main event of the day a few more shots were sent over but nothing happened. We were relieved at 10.30 this evening & got into Armentieres at about 1.30am
Sunday 21st
Had the day off & put most of the time in sleeping. Marched up to the trenches at 8.30pm & put in till 2am on fatigue
Monday 22nd
Had the day off again & had a look round the town there is not a sound building in it that I could see. Hostile air craft dropped a few bombs and injured a few but no other damage done. We have the night off the first for 10 days
