Thursday 18th
Had a fairly quite night put in a few shots our snipers got 3 Huns this morning early on top of the parapet fairly quite all the morning except for aeroplanes they kept the artillery fairly busy they landed a few swish bangs over at dinner time & wounded one man in the evening they put 6 bombs over in our section of trench but only ripped the duck boards about & cut the telephone wires I think they must have seen the smoke from our cook house as the lobed all them around about there machine guns were very active on both sides after dark till we went off at midnight
Friday 19th
Stood to at 2 am it is rotten getting out for an hour just when you get settled down aeroplanes still active 5 observation balloons up all day 2 of ours & 3 germans they tried to draw our fire so that the observers could pick up our guns but were unsuccessfull so kept quite thank goodness as it is the infantry that suffers when they bombard & every thing was right when we went off at midnight. Weather fine and getting warm
