The ground is still white with snow.  We are on the old job fatigue digging that useless drain we have no heart to work because it seems useless.  It is a bit colder today than it was yesterday.  We have a very had [hard] job to get a wash because the water is turned of.  We hear artillery engagements but very few aeroplanes.  Sometimes a shell drops about ½ a mile from here.
