We had a fine gallop over the desert the other evening to an oasis 4 miles from Camp.   The gyppie arabs there are a better class than those in Cairo.   Their method of living is very primitive,  just what it was thousands of years ago. The wooden plough, water wheel and primitive threshing machine.   Just a heavy platform with sharp iron discs drawn by a couple of mud  buffaloes or oxen over the bare ground.   We rode all through the village & found it very interesting indeed.   The Camel or cow still saunters round the [?]  well with a bag  over the head to keep
