I must let you know what letters came to me

Such a [indecipherable] of welcome news and all so welcome
Mother is quite [indecipherable] in wishing Jack to be home and he is splendid to stay for theres a braver battle often who fought in civil life than in war. It requires splendid men to bear it
Bert is a brick to support to Mother that any help you may want will be forthcoming
I do trust the authorities will send you the 9/- per day and the back money for I have made the allotment for that dear.
I know Bert would make a splendid soldier and I feel sure he will get his chance
