My dear Wife

We are now resting in a village after a term at the 'front'

I am correct in saying 'the front' for we were as near to that business place of war as our particular work required us to be

Without giving details, which after all would not make pleasant reading nor be of much avail as the censor might object, I may at least be permitted to express myself in some measure and say I have experienced some of those rare and intense moments in which one really lives with the vital thrill of being.

There is no word to express the peculiar effervescing elation of such moments as there; spiced as
