the afternoon I saw Olly Gray. Later on had a swim down on the beach. What a relief to once more take ones socks off & clothes.
Sunday 9th
Last night we were woken up by a big explosion, 5 - 9th Infantry men were killed supposed to be caused by shell being left in an abandoned gun pit. After Breakfast Corpl & I walked down to the beach for fresh water. The rippling noise of the waves as they beat in on the sandy ground was somewhat deadened by the fearce bursting of the shells overhead. Four unfortunates were hit just near us - one had his ears blown off. I cannot understand how our leaders do not make an attack
