Had a quiet night last evening. While in charge of watch in pit Charlie Forterine [?] came & we had a long chat.
I observed that just at the front of our gun in a pretty valley the whole of the sward was covered with red Poppies. The contrast of the green & red was very charming & I wondered if the hues of the crimson had been deeppened by the blood spilt on the ridges in the immediate vicinity.
