5th April Monday - A day of fatigues. Packing etc. A fearful hot dusty dry wind - sand etc as if a very inferno had arisen to bid us farewell. Left camp about 8 PM, what a relief. Had rough mount. On canteen duty arrived Cairo about 11.30. All entrained in quick time and left at 2.30 am. Tired - the carriages presented a rather scattered appearance. Had a short sleep - arrived at Alexandria at 9.30 am
6th April Tuesday - Our first work was to unload horses & baggage. Had charge of party on wharf. You can imagine it was a relief to once again drink in of the cool fresh breeze laden with ozonne. The harbour was full of transport craft. Went below on the
