It seems a beautiful valley cut off from all war & horror.

This morning we went for a route march round & through the neighbouring village on our left, following the road at the back of the camp, through wooded country dotted with fine country houses that attracted the eye because of their beauty.
Down in the valley round a bend, we could see a fairly busy little town with two churches conspicuous. One had the ordinary spire, the other was a church of the early English or mediaeval style, with chancel & tower in
