It appears that a Tommy had taken a prisoner & only took his rifle from him & never troubled to search him for arms. Col Snow approached the him with some question relating to the enemy, where upon the prisoner drew a flint lock pistol & shot Snow in the stomach, the poor fellow suffered great pain before he died. Of course the prisoner did not stand up long after that affair.
It just shows that you cannot be too careful.
All the nigger population has left this town, they were frightened
