Thursday 26th October 1916 - Durban.
At 3a.m. the rattle of anchor chains through the hawsepipe woke me up. Sleep was out of the question so I and Ron got up and went on deck. Later on we steamed into Durban harbour and berthed in the wharf. At 12p.m. we had a march through the town and were dismissed at 2:30p.m. We (Ron and I) had dinner and went for a stroll. Durban is a very pretty town and the people are very hospitable. We had tea and went to the pictures we eventually got back to the boat and to bed by 11p.m.
Friday 27th October 1916
We sneaked off the boat at 10a.m. and caught a tram to Bulwer Park tram rides free. We then came back and went to the zoo. After looking at the the animals we came back to the Y.M.C.A. and met a young lady who invited us to tea. We had a evening and were sorry to leave.
Saturday 28th October 1916
We had the usual march and then steamed out of Durban with the best wishes for good luck from the white people. We left at 3:30p.m. and hugged the coast to Capetown.
Sunday 29th October 1916
We had church parade and afterwards watched the coast. It is a very rugged coast.
